Tutoring Methods / Style
In a typical English lesson with me, I would start by assessing the student’s current reading level and comprehension skills. We would then engage in reading exercises tailored to their interests, using materials that challenge them without being overwhelming. For example, I might select a short story that aligns with their hobbies, followed by comprehension questions that promote critical thinking. I emphasize vocabulary expansion through context and usage, encouraging students to relate new words to their own experiences. This approach not only builds their reading skills but also fosters a love for literature and enhances their overall communication abilities.
During Maths lesson, I would begin with a brief review of previously learned concepts to reinforce understanding. Then, I would introduce new material through interactive problem-solving. For instance, if we were tackling fractions, I might present real-life scenarios, such as cooking measurements, to illustrate their practical application. As students work through exercises, I provide immediate feedback and encourage them to explain their reasoning, which helps solidify their understanding and boosts confidence. This method allows students to see Maths as a useful tool rather than a daunting subject, promoting a positive attitude toward learning.
In Biology lessons, I would focus on creating connections between concepts and real-world applications. For example, if we were studying ecosystems, I might use a case study of a local habitat to discuss biodiversity and environmental impact. I incorporate hands-on activities, such as experiments or observations, to engage students actively in the learning process. This experiential approach helps students grasp complex biological concepts by seeing them in action, enhancing retention and fostering curiosity about the natural world. My lessons are designed to stimulate critical thinking and encourage students to ask questions, making Biology not just a subject, but a lens through which they can explore the world around them.
