I like to start my lesson by giving a simple diagnostic test (DT) to see student's ability to solve questions. From there, I will make a lesson plan that is suitable for the student's level. ex: Either focusing on basic calculation/understanding first then focusing on the school syllabus or do it together while following school syllabus. All of this will depend on how well the students do on the DT. The lesson plan will also change accordingly with the student's progress.
