Summary
I am a full-time tutor. I have 3-year teaching experience in IGCSE International homeschool and tuition centre for IGCSE, PT3, SPM and STPM/A-level as well as physical offline home tuition and online tuition. I have helped many students from lower grade result to get improvement and higher marks. I am a friendly, strict and patient teacher, and I always emphasize the importance of communication with students and parents. For me, teaching is to transfer knowledge to the next generation to cultivate talents and influence students to unleash their potential.

Setting the short quiz for each class to understand student’s level:
I will prepare a 5 min quiz based on student’s level each class. The performance mark will be recorded. I will pick the topics in which the students have poor performance to discuss together.
Teaching methodology:
The lessons taught are based on the students’ exam syllabus and mostly focused on past year exam questions. I had prepared my own summarized notes which include the main points only, coupled with my own designed exercises or reference books based on student’s level.
Before starting class, I will create a teaching plan and prepare as much as I could.
First of all, I will pick few parts where student leant last class for revision. During the class, I will teach the strategy to understand the topic in short time. As we know, students will face difficulty and they are bored in learning by reading the lengthy paragraphs of notes and textbook texts, thus I have my own summary of the related topic in my notes, concept map, bubble map, table note, chart note etc. I will make students to have interest in study, by just understanding the core concepts and important points that are related to the real exams. Always remember, study smart, and don’t study hard. Of course, the effort of student is compulsory as well. In the class, I often ask students to answer my questions to ensure they really understand what I have said in the class. I prefer students to ask more questions and even spam the messages to me as this shows that the student has good attitude and passion in study. Sometimes, as a teacher, rather than exposing student’s weakness, I will praise more on student’s strength to give them more confidence in study.
Before ending the class, I will ask the students again about what they have learnt and also make the conclusion of the topic explained. Homework will be given to check their understanding.
After class, I will watch and hear my recording during the class to check what I should improve in the class. I will share the videos with my students, parents and colleagues to get their reviews.
Every 3 months (March/June/September/December), identify student’s strength:
After some long time of classes, i.e., every 3 months, the test with 30 minutes based on the topics will be designed based on student’s understanding to identify student’s knowledge. The evaluation report will be made and sent to students and parents. And then, it is important to get feedback from students and parents. I will ask for their feelings and opinions about my teaching style and methodology and urge them to suggest more ideas to make our teaching process more effective and improve my teaching style. Questionnaire will be given as well.

Tutoring Milestones
- Ethan improved a lot from B to A in Form 3 Science Exam in November 2021.
